TV Advertising: What If . . .
I was watching TV yesterday, and as might be expected, I was bombarded by advertisements.
I wondered what would happen if they advertised and promoted certain things as hard as they market and promote toys, cars, makeup, commemorative plates, and male enhancement products-- the list goes on and on.
What if they marketed and promoted:
- Saving?
- Frugality?
- Reading?
- Physical fitness?
- Simple living?
- Proper diet?
- Self sufficiency?
- Math skills?
- Honesty?
- How interest works for you and against you?
- Faithfulness?
We, and our kids, might actually focus on what is really important . . . instead of that crap we don't need in our lives.
What if . . .

These are all wonderful ideas. No doubt, these and others would be very beneficial to us all - now and later.
It is similar to solving homelessness - no one has yet found a way to make money at it. So, addressing the issues and solving the problems will be done much more seriously when it shows promise of making money.

I know, I know, wishful thinking . . .

That's exactly why I think it's a good idea to turn the TV off...because no one is ever going to advertise the sort of thing that I want my children to see.
My children's viewing (which is limited) is about 95% DVD watching (mostly classic cartoons), with 5% or less being TV with advertisements.

Here is my take on the whole TV issue. I absolutely think it's an addiction. It's to the point where many of us can't imagine what to do if we don't watch TV. Sad, but true.
